Now more than ever, social media has shaped the way we consume content, do business entertain ourselves and maintain our relationships. With this shift in consumption patterns from the physical to the digital world, public attention has been scattered across the many interaction platforms. This has created a challenge for brands, many of which may still be unfamiliar with digital (and in 2019 we are unsure why).

Others have learned to tailor their approaches to reaching, engaging and converting their varied audiences. We all have our own ideas about how social media works, many of us still display palpable uncertainty around achieving success and staying relevant. Let’s take a look at emerging social media trends & techniques for 2019.

The Rise of Influencers, Part II

Influencer marketing continues to be an integral tool in reaching online audiences and has established itself as a marketing trend that is here to stay. Influencers are persons who have already built a sizeable community for themselves (sometimes up to millions of followers) through automatically connecting on some aspect of their brand persona.

Some may love fashion, others art, others technology and as a result, they become an online authority figure on the topic, through creating content and commenting on trends in the said industry.

This following gives them influence over others and makes them extremely effective at driving action, whether it be sales or having you show up at a conference. It’s in our nature to more quickly put our trust in persons, and stand by their opinions, instead of corporations, especially if we follow these people on our favorite social media networks. Although influencer marketing is less direct than traditional forms of marketing, it creates an authentic way of connecting with your target audience by building trust with the consumer.

Contrary to popular belief, when it comes to influencers, bigger isn’t always better. Many brands have been tapping into the power of micro-influencers to reach their audiences. Micro influencers are generally people who have 10,000 or fewer followers. They tend to interact a lot more with their following and therefore are seen as “normal people” in the eyes of the consumer, which many people will naturally relate to- as opposed to a celebrity influencer with millions of followers. When done correctly, influencers give a human voice to brands or corporations and help to make them more relatable to consumers.

Know Your Platforms

In 2019, to have more impact, brands need to be more intentional about where they play online. They need to know which platforms to focus on, as each platform is used by different demographics of people. For example, in ‘The 2018 Social Guide’, a study by, we see where 800 million people use Instagram on a monthly basis, 59% of which are between the ages of 18-29. Of that group, 53% say Instagram is the best platform to tell them about a new product. Whereas LinkedIn is the most popular social media network among fortune 500 CEOs. Linkedin has an average of 106 million monthly active users, 45% of which earn over $75k a year. With this in mind, brands that use multiple platforms should use these statistics to decide where to post content & on which platforms to focus their marketing campaigns.

Storytelling Is Still A Winning Strategy

At its core, marketing is about telling a story. Storytelling connects with customers on an emotional level and makes them more likely to make a purchase and become loyal to that brand. For you to really connect with your audience, your content needs to capture the consumer’s attention in a compelling way. Video content is a very natural and effective means of telling your story and resonating with your audience. Your customers’ prospects, fans also love to share your journey of business growth. It makes them feel as though they are growing with you and are directly contributing to your success. Always integrate these techniques into your storytelling processes and watch your customers come back every time.

Quality over Quantity

Content is king and therefore brands publish copious amounts of content for their consumers to engage with. However, to have an impact, brands need to be creative & deliberate. Think about the message you are trying to communicate to your audience & the best ways you can do so. Less content that is well thought out & executed, cuts through the noise and is far more effective than bombarding your audience with an abundance of uninspired & meaningless content.

Video Content & Live Streaming

Is video marketing worth it? In “Understanding the Expanding Benefits of Marketing with Video”, the Aberdeen Group says that video marketers generate 66% more qualified leads per year & achieve a 54% increase in brand awareness. Wyzowl’s 2017 “State of video marketing” suggests that 83% of those using video think it gives them a great ROI & 82% think it’s a key part of their content strategy.

Of those that aren’t using video, 73% have bought a product after watching a video, and 97% of businesses using explainer videos say it helps users to better understand their business. We are short on attention but love to be entertained, which is why video content currently accounts for over three-quarters of all internet traffic. Videos are fun to watch and are far more effective in driving sales as opposed to text-based content.

Live streams can include real-time product unboxing, Q & As, and behind the scenes footage of events. The possibilities to engage with your audience are endless. What is important is that the content is authentic and creatively brand-centric.

Video marketing is here to stay and is constantly evolving. It’s time to start using video to remain relevant & keep up with your counterparts in the industry.

And that’s it for now, we hope this short blog helps you master social media and the wider digital marketing spectrum in 2019. Hope you enjoyed :).
